Evolutionary thinking has been crucial to my understanding of the world around me. Also, I am delighted by the extraordinary biochemical and genetic complexity of living beings, and by the breathtaking biodiversity of life. Finally, I am very sensible to the environmental crisis we have created with our shortsighted, selfish actions. I thoroughly enjoy discussing about these issues, and they have become my central teaching interests.
Therefore, in addition to research, I want to teach and mentor Biology students. With regard to teaching, I consider indispensable to go beyond passing on relevant scientific knowledge, ideas, and techniques. Encouraging critical thinking and discussion participation from students is, in my opinion, the best way to teach them what being a scientist is all about. I have put this into practice in the numerous courses I have participated in, as a teaching assistant or professor: Introductory Biology, Genetics, Conservation, Evolution, Development.
I would like to mentor undergraduate and graduate students with interests similar to mine. This means, among other things, to teach them the basic steps necessary to conceive, design, execute, and publish successful research projects. I want to provide them with an intellectually challenging atmosphere where they will start shaping and pursing their professional goals.
